The cosmetic industry is constantly developing new treatments to help people battle the signs of aging, such as sagging skin, laxity, and fine lines around your face. These procedures have become quicker and less invasive than the treatment options from before. One of the newest anti-aging treatments today are polydioxanone (PDO) threads. The treatment uses thin, dissolvable threads injected into the skin. Millennia Wellness MD uses FDA-cleared PDO threads to approximate facial tissue, resulting in a more youthful appearance and making our patients feel uplifted.
PDO Thread Treatment
PDO thread lifts are non-invasive procedures, which make them a more convenient alternative to facelifts, especially for patients who are unwilling or not ready to consider a surgical treatment. The PDO threads are inserted via injections, so the medical provider won’t have to make incisions on your face. The threads have microscopic “cogs” that attach to your skin and tack it in place, to treat areas like cheeks, jaw, and neck. Once the threads are inserted, they’ll also trigger your body’s natural healing response, which studies have shown may stimulate collagen production in the area that gives your skin a more youthful glow. The threads are dissolvable, which means the effects will not last as long as more invasive procedures like cosmetic surgery. However, the increased collagen production delivers long-term skin benefits that lasts from 12-18 months.
Ideal Candidates
Anyone who is looking to correct lines, wrinkles, and other manifestations of aging in the face can be a good candidate for a PDO thread lift procedure. If a person’s sagging skin is under the chin and near the cheeks, the procedure is especially effective and beneficial for them. Ideal candidates are between the ages of 30-65.
Customizable Treatments
PDO thread treatments address various facial cosmetic concerns. The threads can be injected in different parts of the face, including the following:
- Laugh lines Eye wrinkles Under-eye area Cheeks and jowls
- Neck
- Chin and jawline Naso-jugal and nasolabial folds “11-lines” and forehead
PDO threads come in a range of thicknesses, depending on the area of the face where they will be injected.
Risks and Recovery
Thread treatments require minimal recovery time. The procedure only takes 30 minutes to an hour and only involves local anaesthesia, so you can get back to your normal routine. You do, however, still need to avoid activities that make you sweat heavily or cause extreme facial movements for the first couple weeks. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons considers thread treatments low-risk procedures. The most you’ll experience is some slight pain at the injection site, bruising, and swelling, but these should fade a few hours up to 2 weeks after the treatment. If you experience any complications, see your practitioner immediately. They’ll take out the sutures, which should solve the irritation.
